Warri Effurun Peace Marathon 2023: Athletes gear up for 21km challenge
Preparations have commenced for the 2023 edition of the Warri Effurun Peace Marathon billed for November.
Organisers of the event entering it’s sixth year have extended the race course to 21km from 10km as they aim to expand the competition and it’s side attractions.
Some of the athletes eyeing the top prizes in the men and women categories have indicated their readiness to compete and win.
I’ve always loved to run in the WEPM and this year, I am training hard to win it again,” said 2022 champion Emmanuel Gyan.
Also speaking was Joshua Stephen Dalyop who was third in the event last year. “By God’s grace I am getting ready to run in Warri, be it 21km or 10km.
“I was pleased with the organisation last year and I am looking forward to being there and win,” said Dalyop.
Chief Executive Officer of the Warri Effurun Peace Marathon, Joyce Bozimo disclosed that the new route was necessary to enable a larger part of the Warri Effurun community to see the athletes contest and also to draw more attention to the race.
.
“We are starting from Osubi Airport area and then move towards NPA, before terminating at the Warri Township stadium.
Our intention is to make the communities embrace the race. The route has already been measured and we are working to presenting another interesting race,” said Mrs. Bozimo.
